Dish/Directv DVR, transfer to computer?
Are there any DVR's from either Dish network or DirecTV that can transfer recorded programs to a computer? Is there any way a PC can peek inside the DVR's hard drive to access the actual files directly? I'm looking to replace my Tivo, but don't want to give up the TivoToGo functionality. I'm not looking for a TV tuner card type of solution. I understand how that works, but it's time consuming, and loses some quality in the process.

Actually yeah, kinda. Dish Network offers a PocketDish. You can actually use that to transfer your movies off the DVR onto the pocketdish and then to a computer ( 1 hr programming in like 5 minutes using usb 2.0 connection or realtime for composite). Now, because of copyright laws, you can't watch those programs on the computer but you can at least save it on your computer to free up room or if your DVR crashes. There is software (illegal) that will allow u to view the program on your computer. It's a more expensive option than a tv tuner card but it is just that...an option...a $300 option. One note to the answer below: The majority of Dish DVR's have USB connections (only the 622,942 have 2.0). Technically, the pocketdish is compatible with any receiver, cable or satellite using comp connection but of course you'd be recording in real-time and picture quality will degrade some.
