I should first ask what TV you own, but for now I'll go under the assumption that you own one of the older model HDTVs. I say that since most HDTVs now come with at least 1 HDMI input on the back. And since you said you had to get a HDMI to VG (did you mean VGA or DVI?) adapter, I take it that there isn't even one HDMI input. All is not lost, however. I'll bet that you have at least one set of "component cable" input on your TV. Those are the blue-green-red plugs and when I got DirecTV, it came with the component cables instead of HDMI. These will also carry HD signals almost equally as well as HDMI (HDMI also carries audio signals which makes it very convenient). You'll just have to connect the audio portion separately. I would recommend using your existing method for the PS3 and the component cables for your DirecTV HD. And use your input selector on your TV to switch between the two.HDMI switch is a neat little device and would also work, but I think you can get away without it.Another more costly, but a better option would be to acquire an A/V receiver. It can be fairly expensive especially if you need one that will allow you to connect HD components to it, but at the same time, if you're trying to build any type of a entertainment center, it's a must. Nice thing about it is that you can connect all your media devices (DVD player, cable or satellite box, game consoles, TiVo, CD players, iPods, XM radio, etc) to it. Then you just need one connection from your A/V receiver to your TV. You can also connect all your speakers to it (surround sound & subwoofers for example). Because the last thing you want to do is watch a great Blu-ray movie in high definition on your PS3 while using your TV speakers for sound. It would be like telling Tiger Woods that he can only use a 7 iron. He'd still be pretty damn good, but you know he can be so much better.
