i have a directv dvr with a Usb in the front. can i transfer my recorded shows to my laptop somehow?

Many DVR's including catv units have a usb port in the front that does not allow for copying to a computer. The easiest way I have found to copy from my DVR to computer is the audio/video outputs in tghe back, you will still need the appropriate card in your computer to accept this video source.
