Now when im recording a show it dosent let me leave that channel

That's because the DVR only has 1 tuner in it. If you want to change the channel, your telling the tuner to switch stations. If it switches stations, the DVR can't record the program it was recording because it can stay tuned in to the channel it needs to.You need a DVR with two tuners. That way the recorder can record one channel while you watch another. This would also allow the DVR to record two programs at once (provided you weren't trying to watch a third program at the same time.
