Is there a DVR that I can get which doesn't have to be activated through dish...

...or Directv? I would like to find a DVR that Ican get which doesn't have to be activated with Dish Network or Directv. I know there is Tivo, but are there otehrs?

Well, there is the option of just buying a regular DVD recorder that is like a VCR, except dvd form.... It's not hooked up through your cable provider, you just buy it at your local Wal-mart or Sears.... it's not quite as convenient though because you need to buy the DVD's to burn the shows to and whatnot..

The DVRs at any electronics store have either the ability to record onto disc, a hardrive or both...so you have some options there.
