Dish or Directv in camper
I subscribe to Directv SD. I want to go to HD. I use this in my 5th wheel camper and mount the dish on a sturdy tripod on the ground when I get into camp. Aiming the SD is no sweat. 2 questions:
1. How much difficulty will I encounter when aiming each time I set up camp? 2. Would DISH be better serve my needs as far as setup, tc? Tks |

Both are going to be similar in regards to setup. What I tell people is if you are looking for the best price go with Dish, (I'm pretty sure this still applied to their mobile services) but if your a big sports fan I would probably stick with DirecTV.

How does this last reply even apply to what the poster is asking? Good grief.
I've set up the DBS dishes on small mobile vehicles a couple of times - it's pretty much the same as doing it at home - just aim it up, where you are told to aim it, then use the receiver to tell when you get a good signal. Presto - signal set up and you can enjoy TV wherever you are. |

New to DTV.
I have a receiver for the RV also. In a trial set-up today I'm having trouble picking up a signal. I should say, I've switched from Dish to DirecTV. What satellite should I be on, and the only pic I get on the TV is DTV logo and the words, "searching for signal"... or words to that effect. Help? I know enough to be dangerous. The last time I aimed a dish was my Dish 10 years ago. No problems then but I recently retired and that ol' timers disease, CRS, has set in! Thanks, Larry |

The easiest way to aim the dish is to have two people doing it - move the dish around while someone else looks at the transponder strength on the TV. Change transponders if the signal never gets higher, rinse lather repeat. Works for me every time. Get DTV to come out and do it for you if all else fails. If you can't get a signal, you can't pay them to provide the service. Just remind them of that if they won't do it for you.

I can watch the TV screen while adjusting the dish... so TWO people aren't needed. My problem is first, I don't know which satellite I should be aiming at. When I go inline to different sites for the coordinates, (using my zip code)I need to know WHICH SATELLITE DTV is using. |

If you're going to get all bitchy about my attempt, then I'm not going to reply again.
I gave you information that I felt matched what you were asking. You never specified that you were able to watch it, just that you wanted to know which satellite they were using. How is that relevant? Just aim the dish and cycle through the transponders. There's a half dozen or so up there. Quote:

[color="Sienna"][b]Sheesh, you really think that was "bitchy"?
Well OK then, DON"T REPLY again if you don't want to, but NO, you didn't answer my question. I asked which satellite I should be on, and apparently "YOU DON'T KNOW"! I can't fault you for not knowing, heck, I don't know myself. It DOES make a difference though. When you go to a site like "http://www.dishpointer.com/", you select the satellite you want to get the direction you need. As far as checkin the manual, there's no info there, Pal. DTV isn't into the do-it-yourselfer's. Again, if you can't answer my question, please don't bother tryin', OK Thanks, Larry K. (aka: michigancamper)?/COLOR] Your last paragraph BTW, shows you really don't know s**t anyway. |
