Dish Network Receiver 625 USB hack?

I'd like to transfer my recorded programs from the receiver to an external USB hard drive. I know DISH charges a $30 dollar fee to activate the USB port for accepting receivers, but I was wondering if there is any way to enable access to the external hard drive without paying the 30 dollar fee.
