We have had Dish Network for a few months now upon referral from my grandmother, who has had it for a year.

We got Dish when we moved to the hill country - Blanco, TX.

When they installed it, they have us receiving Austin, TX local stations. We would rather receive San Antonio, TX local stations (both are equal distance from us) so that we can watch the Spurs games (we're from San Antonio and love our Spurs!)

Anyway, when my grandmother had hers installed, she asked if it would be possible to receive San Antonio stations, and the installer said that all she had to do was point it another way???

I talked to Dish via their online chat this morning and they said that this is not possible - that the local stations we are given are based off of our zip code (78606).

So... My question -- can we receive San Antonio local channels instead of Austin?

the FCC determines the local station that you can receive with satellite & cable. It is nit the company (Dish). You can appliy for a waiver with the FCC, however, they normally do not give it.
The other option is an off air antenna, that will pick up the stations you want.
The antenna can be hooked up to the Dish Receiver. (on the back of the receiver antenna/cable in.
