Help New Guy says Hello!

Greetings to all; I'm a 74 yr old retired teacher, living in Chesterfield. I was on the scene about 4-6 years ago, but interest waned as the following will show.. I had a Force 2044 box with DVD player; an 85 cm dish with monobloc LNB for Astra and Hotbird. Also Sky with its own dish. I enjoyed a lot of FTA Euro channels, especially the French and German ones; I had a Dragon cam and loved the Multiview channels for their films, which were undubbed, still in English. There was always a lot of Classical music from the likes of Musique Classique and Mezzo. But, but . . . the Force box went wrong; kept freezing, and it turned out the Company went broke so I couldn't even D/L a new Channel list. The DVD bit still works but I've lost Hotbird completely and rarely watch anything now.
BUT . . times change. I now want to get new kit cos I plan to buy an hotstuff HD TV set as the old 26" Toshiba is showing its age. The new set should have 3+ HDMI sockets so I can input the new sat receiver I want to buy, and the Sly dish and the dvd player straight into the TV set. This will please the Missus cos it will eliminate two boxes and their wiring (why do ladies hate wiring so much??) So, cutting a long story short - what Sat RX should I buy? DM or TM or Vu Duo or ??? What Tv would be good? I need the new Enigma thingy explaining by an expert. Thanks in Advance for for all your help and suggestions Beemacdee,
