My Hughes.net speeds
I've been watching the posts closely since I posted on 2-25 about my
slow speeds and wanted to give everybody an update. I've been a Direcway/Hughes customer for over 5 years and until 2 months ago have been happy with my 4000 system. I have been on the phone with teir 4 tech support 4 times since 2-25. My speeds had been less than 30 kbs down since 1-25. The last tech person I talked to said they were intentionally slowing the 4000 users from 6:00pm to 12:00am every night and weekends. He said this system was becoming obsolete and they wanted to phase it out. I said that was fine but I thought I should get a free upgrade to the 7000S. It took 2 weeks and a bump up to Excutive Customer Service but I finally got my free upgrade. Upgrade to the 7000S was 2 days ago. Speeds are averaging 600-1000 down and 150-200 up. So far so good. In my opinion it took too much time and too many phone calls (about 4 hous total of wait on hols time) but they did eventually do as I requested and So far I'm happy. Boy the installers can really tell you a thing or two about Hughes service. Acouding to him I didn't really need the upgrade that is just what Hughes wants you to do. He said he could have made my 4000 system download at faster speed than the 7000S. All I wanted was the speeds that I felt the company should offer (i.e. atleast 1/2 the max) and now after 2 months I'm getting them ![]() Brandy |

If you ever see him again, tell him he should do a few of those for people that would be willing to give full testimonials, then go on BroadbandReports.com and offer to do it for people at, say, $500 per. In other words, color me highly skeptical. Unless he discovered something local to your system, either with the dish, or with your computer, that he fixed and which would also have fixed your 4000 problems. --- Don Bradner donb (not don) at arcatapet.com '90 Wanderlodge PT40 "Blue Thunder" towing '07 Jeep Liberty |

That is prime time, and is the period of heaviest usage. Frank, For over a month my download speeds were never over 30 kbs. I think that's a little more than the typical slow down. Brandy |

I had Direcway/Hughes for a few years and was not happy at all.
If it rained hard or snowed my connection was extremely slow, or unavailable. I needed high speed for my job and this was my only option, the system did not work with my work vpn - it was a nightmare really...I had to go to a coffee shop to download and upload files to the vpn...we were finally able to get dsl here. I would never use this again |
